Аня: Что, Иван? Что случилось?
(Anya: What, Ivan? What happened?)

Иван: Смотри! Телевизор! Футбол!
(Ivan: Look! The television! Football!)

Аня: Футбол? О, интересно. А что это?
(Anya: Football? Oh, interesting. And what is this?)

Иван: Это матч! Очень хороший матч! Моя любимая команда играет.
(Ivan: It’s a match! A very good match! My favorite team is playing.)

Аня: Твоя команда? Какая команда твоя?
(Anya: Your team? Which team is yours?)

Иван: Моя команда – синяя. Видишь? Синяя команда. А там – красная команда.
(Ivan: My team is the blue one. See? The blue team. And there is the red team.)

Аня: Понятно. Синяя команда и красная команда. А кто играет хорошо?
(Anya: I see. The blue team and the red team. And who is playing well?)

Иван: Моя синяя команда играет очень хорошо! Смотри!
(Ivan: My blue team is playing very well! Look!)

Аня: Что я должна смотреть?
(Anya: What should I be looking at?)

Иван: Смотри на игрока. Вон тот игрок. У него мяч.
(Ivan: Look at the player. That player over there. He has the ball.)

Аня: Мяч? А, да. Я вижу мяч. Он бежит.
(Anya: The ball? Ah, yes. I see the ball. He is running.)

Иван: Да! Он бежит очень быстро! Очень, очень быстро!
(Ivan: Yes! He is running very fast! Very, very fast!)

Аня: А красный игрок? Он тоже бежит.
(Anya: And the red player? He is also running.)

Иван: Да, он тоже бежит. Но он бежит медленно. Мой игрок бежит быстро!
(Ivan: Yes, he is also running. But he is running slowly. My player is running fast!)

Аня: Хорошо. Синий игрок бежит быстро, а красный игрок бежит медленно.
(Anya: Okay. The blue player runs fast, and the red player runs slowly.)

Иван: Да! Правильно! Смотри, смотри! Мяч!
(Ivan: Yes! Correct! Look, look! The ball!)

Аня: Где мяч?
(Anya: Where is the ball?)

Иван: Вот мяч! У синего игрока! Давай! Давай!
(Ivan: Here’s the ball! The blue player has it! Come on! Go!)

Аня: Что «давай»?
(Anya: What is “davai”?)

Иван: Это значит… ну… go! Давай!
(Ivan: It means… well… go! Come on!)

Аня: А, понятно. Давай, синяя команда!
(Anya: Ah, I see. Come on, blue team!)

Иван: Да! Молодец, Аня! Смотри! Ой, нет! Теперь мяч у красной команды.
(Ivan: Yes! Well done, Anya! Look! Oh, no! Now the red team has the ball.)

Аня: О, это плохо?
(Anya: Oh, is that bad?)

Иван: Да, это очень плохо. Очень, очень плохо. Красная команда играет… нехорошо.
(Ivan: Yes, that is very bad. Very, very bad. The red team plays… not well.)

Аня: Понятно. Теперь я болею за синюю команду тоже.
(Anya: I see. Now I’m rooting for the blue team too.)

Иван: Отлично! Смотри! Наш игрок! У него снова мяч!
(Ivan: Excellent! Look! Our player! He has the ball again!)

Аня: Да! Я вижу! Он бежит к воротам!
(Anya: Yes! I see! He is running towards the goal!)

Иван: Да! Быстро, быстро! Бей!
(Ivan: Yes! Fast, fast! Shoot!)

Аня: Бей?
(Anya: Shoot?)

Иван: Да! Бей! Смотри! ГОЛ! ГОЛ! ГООООЛ!
(Ivan: Yes! Shoot! Look! GOAL! GOAL! GOOOOAL!)

Аня: Гол? Это хорошо?
(Anya: A goal? Is that good?)

Иван: Это отлично! Гол – это супер! Счёт один – ноль! Один!
(Ivan: It’s excellent! A goal is super! The score is one - zero! One!)

Аня: Один – ноль! Значит, синяя команда выигрывает?
(Anya: One - zero! Does that mean the blue team is winning?)

Иван: Да! Моя команда выигрывает! Моя команда – лучшая!
(Ivan: Yes! My team is winning! My team is the best!)

Аня: Ура! Синяя команда! Мне нравится футбол.
(Anya: Hooray! Blue team! I like football.)

Иван: Правда? Тебе нравится футбол?
(Ivan: Really? You like football?)

Аня: Да. Когда твоя команда забивает гол, это очень весело.
(Anya: Yes. When your team scores a goal, it’s very fun.)

Иван: Это точно! Футбол – это очень весело. Особенно, когда моя команда – чемпион!
(Ivan: Exactly! Football is very fun. Especially when my team is the champion!)

Аня: Я рада за тебя, Иван. И за синюю команду.
(Anya: I’m happy for you, Ivan. And for the blue team.)

🔍 Grammar Focus

Let’s look at two simple but important grammar points from the dialogue.

1. Possessive Pronouns: Моя (My) and Твоя (Your)

In Russian, possessive pronouns change to agree with the gender of the noun they describe. In the dialogue, Ivan and Anya talk about their team, команда.

The word команда (team) is a feminine noun. Therefore, they use the feminine forms of “my” and “your”:

  • Моя команда – синяя. (My team is the blue one.)
  • Твоя команда? (Your team?)

If they were talking about a masculine noun, like мяч (ball), they would use a different form: мой (my) or твой (your).

2. Adverbs of Manner: Быстро (Fast) and Медленно (Slowly)

Adverbs are words that describe verbs (actions). In the dialogue, Ivan uses adverbs to describe how the players are running (бежит).

  • Он бежит очень быстро! (He is running very fast!)
  • Но он бежит медленно. (But he is running slowly.)

Notice that adverbs in Russian, like быстро and медленно, don’t change their form based on the subject. They simply describe the action. You can easily modify them with words like очень (very) to add emphasis.

🌍 Cultural Tip

Football is the most popular sport in Russia, and fans are known for being extremely passionate. Russians often use the verb “болеть” (to be sick) to mean “to root for” a team, suggesting that being a sports fan is a kind of healthy fever.
