(Ivan: I’m glad too. Are we waiting for the bus?)
Аня: Да, мы ждём автобус. Мы едем в парк.
(Anya: Yes, we are waiting for the bus. We are going to the park.)
Иван: Отлично! Я люблю парк. Но… где наш автобус?
(Ivan: Excellent! I love the park. But… where is our bus?)
Аня: Я не знаю. Автобуса ещё нет. Мы ждём.
(Anya: I don’t know. The bus isn’t here yet. We are waiting.)
Иван: Хорошо. Ждём. Смотри, какая сегодня хорошая погода.
(Ivan: Okay. We wait. Look, what good weather it is today.)
Аня: Да, погода прекрасная. Светит солнце. Небо голубое.
(Anya: Yes, the weather is wonderful. The sun is shining. The sky is blue.)
Иван: Да, небо очень красивое. И тепло. В парке будет хорошо.
(Ivan: Yes, the sky is very beautiful. And it’s warm. It will be nice in the park.)

(Ivan: Hooray! Is this our bus?)
Аня: Ммм… нет. Это не наш автобус.
(Anya: Hmm… no. This is not our bus.)
Иван: Почему? Это же автобус.
(Ivan: Why? It’s a bus.)
Аня: Да, но это красный автобус. А наш автобус – синий.
(Anya: Yes, but this is a red bus. And our bus is blue.)
Иван: Ах, точно. Это красный автобус. А нам нужен синий автобус.
(Ivan: Oh, right. This is a red bus. And we need a blue bus.)
Аня: Да, мы ждём синий автобус. Значит, ждём ещё.
(Anya: Yes, we are waiting for the blue bus. So, we wait some more.)
Иван: Ждём, ждём, ждём… Я немного устал ждать.
(Ivan: Waiting, waiting, waiting… I’m a little tired of waiting.)
Аня: Я тоже. Но парк – это хорошая идея.

🔍 Grammar Focus
Let’s look at two important grammar points from the dialogue.
1. The Genitive Case with “Нет”
In Russian, when you want to say that something doesn’t exist or isn’t present, you use the word нет (no, not here). The noun that follows нет must be in the genitive case.
In the dialogue, Anya says:
Автобуса ещё нет. (The bus isn’t here yet.)
Notice that the word for “bus” is автобуса, not автобус. This is because автобус is a masculine noun, and its genitive singular form is автобуса. This is a fundamental rule for expressing absence in Russian.
2. Adjective Agreement with Nouns
In Russian, adjectives must agree in gender, number, and case with the nouns they describe. We see several examples of this in the script.
Masculine: The word автобус (bus) is masculine.
это красный автобус а наш автобус – синий
Feminine: The word погода (weather) is feminine.
какая сегодня хорошая погода погода прекрасная
Neuter: The word небо (sky) is neuter.
Небо голубое небо очень красивое
Pay attention to how the endings of the adjectives change to match the gender of the noun.
