π Grammar Focus
Let’s break down two important grammar points from the dialogue.
1. The Present Progressive: V-κ³ μμ΄
When you want to say that an action is currently in progress, you can use the ~κ³ μμ΄ (~go isseo) pattern. This is similar to adding “-ing” to a verb in English. You simply take the verb stem (the part of the verb without ~λ€) and add ~κ³ μμ΄.
Look at these examples from the video:
- μ¬λ€ (to rest) β μ¬κ³ μμ΄. (I am resting.)
- λ―Όμ€: “λ μ§κΈ μ§μ μμ΄. κ·Έλ₯ μ¬κ³ μμ΄.”
- μλ€ (to sleep) β μκ³ μμ΄. (is sleeping.)
- μμ°: “κ·Έλ°λ° μΉμ¦λ μκ³ μμ΄.”
- λλ€ (to play) β λκ³ μμ΄. (is playing.)
- μμ°: “λλΉλ μ§κΈ λκ³ μμ΄.”
2. Making Suggestions: V-γΉκΉ? and V-μ
In the conversation, Minjun and Seoyeon decide to meet up. They use two common patterns for making suggestions and agreeing to them.
1. ~γΉ/μκΉ? (Shall we…?)
This ending is used to ask a question or make a suggestion to the listener. If the verb stem ends in a vowel, you add -γΉκΉ?. If it ends in a consonant, you add -μκΉ?.
λ§λλ€(to meet) β λ§λγΉκΉ? (Shall we meet?)- λ―Όμ€: “μ°λ¦¬ λ΄μΌ λ§λ κΉ?”
μ΄λμ λ§λλ€(to meet where) β μ΄λμ λ§λγΉκΉ? (Where shall we meet?)- λ―Όμ€: “μ΄λμ λ§λ κΉ?”
2. ~μ (Let’s…)
This is an informal way to agree to a suggestion or to propose an action. You add -μ to the verb stem.
λ§λλ€(to meet) β λ§λμ (Let’s meet.)- μμ°: “μ’μ! λ΄μΌ λ§λμ.”
