Ombre: Bonjour. Je m’appelle Ombre. Je suis un chat. Je suis un chat noir et très élégant. J’habite avec mon ami, Léo, dans un appartement. Ma vie est simple et heureuse. Je dors beaucoup, je mange bien, et j’adore jouer.
(Ombre: Hello. My name is Ombre. I am a cat. I am a black and very elegant cat. I live with my friend, Léo, in an apartment. My life is simple and happy. I sleep a lot, I eat well, and I love to play.)

Ombre: Ce matin, quelque chose de différent arrive. Léo entre dans le salon avec une grande boîte marron. Il pose la boîte sur le sol. Une boîte ! C’est très mystérieux. Qu’est-ce qu’il y a à l’intérieur ?
(Ombre: This morning, something different happens. Léo enters the living room with a big brown box. He puts the box on the floor. A box! It’s very mysterious. What is inside?)

Ombre: Je suis un chat très curieux. Je m’approche de la boîte, lentement. Je marche autour de la boîte. Je sens la boîte avec mon nez. Hmm… ça sent le carton et l’extérieur. C’est une odeur intéressante.
(Ombre: I am a very curious cat. I approach the box, slowly. I walk around the box. I smell the box with my nose. Hmm… it smells like cardboard and the outdoors. It’s an interesting smell.)

Ombre: Je suis aussi un chat très agile. D’un bond, je saute sur la boîte. C’est facile. De là, je peux tout voir. Je regarde Léo. Il va dans la cuisine pour préparer son café. Il ne fait pas attention à moi.
(Ombre: I am also a very agile cat. In one leap, I jump onto the box. It’s easy. From here, I can see everything. I watch Léo. He goes into the kitchen to prepare his coffee. He isn’t paying attention to me.)

Ombre: Alors, je décide d’être un peu coquin. Avec ma patte, je pousse doucement la boîte. La boîte glisse un peu sur le sol. Léo entend le petit bruit. Il se retourne et me regarde. Il sourit et dit : « Ombre, petit curieux ! ».
(Ombre: So, I decide to be a little mischievous. With my paw, I gently push the box. The box slides a little on the floor. Léo hears the little noise. He turns around and looks at me. He smiles and says: “Ombre, you little curious one!”. )

Ombre: Léo finit son café et revient dans le salon. Il me regarde sur la boîte et dit : « Alors, on regarde ce qu’il y a dedans ? ». Il prend un couteau et il ouvre la boîte.
(Ombre: Léo finishes his coffee and comes back to the living room. He looks at me on the box and says: “So, shall we see what’s inside?”. He takes a knife and he opens the box.)

Ombre: À l’intérieur, il y a un magnifique coussin. Un grand coussin bleu, très doux. C’est un nouveau lit ! Pour moi ! Léo sort le coussin de la boîte et le pose près de la fenêtre, au soleil. C’est la meilleure place de l’appartement.
(Ombre: Inside, there is a magnificent cushion. A big blue cushion, very soft. It’s a new bed! For me! Léo takes the cushion out of the box and places it near the window, in the sun. It’s the best spot in the apartment.)

Ombre: Je regarde le nouveau coussin bleu. Il a l’air très confortable. Mais… je regarde aussi la boîte en carton. La boîte est vide maintenant.
(Ombre: I look at the new blue cushion. It looks very comfortable. But… I also look at the cardboard box. The box is empty now.)

Ombre: Alors, je prends ma décision. Je saute de la boîte. Je ne vais pas sur le coussin bleu. Non. Je marche vers la boîte vide… et je saute à l’intérieur.
(Ombre: So, I make my decision. I jump off the box. I don’t go onto the blue cushion. No. I walk towards the empty box… and I jump inside.)

Ombre: Ah ! C’est parfait ici. Les murs en carton sont hauts. C’est confortable et c’est mon château. Léo me regarde et il rit très fort. Il dit : « Oh, Ombre ! Bien sûr. La boîte est toujours le meilleur cadeau ! ». Je suis content dans ma nouvelle maison en carton.
